No one elected Elon Musk

To: Sen. Grassley, Sen. Ernst

From: A constituent in Lake Mills, IA

February 6, 2025

As an Iowan, I believe in honest, accountable government—one that serves the people, not billionaire interests. That’s why I’m deeply concerned about Elon Musk’s undue influence, particularly through the fabricated DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) position—a role neither elected nor approved by Congress. This appointment is an affront to democracy and a threat to national security. Musk, a private billionaire with no public mandate, now has unchecked access to sensitive national infrastructure, military contracts, and energy policy. Meanwhile, hardworking Iowans see their voices drowned out by the ultra-wealthy, who manipulate government to serve their own interests. We didn’t vote for Musk, and there was no congressional oversight—how is this acceptable? This isn’t just a national issue; it’s an Iowa issue. While billionaires get tax breaks and government influence, rural communities struggle with underfunded schools, crumbling infrastructure, and cuts to essential programs like USAID—critical for farmers and trade. Iowa families work hard, pay taxes, and follow the rules. Why should the wealthiest few get a free pass to rewrite them? I ask you directly: What are you doing to prevent unelected individuals from compromising our government? How do you justify a system where billionaires shape policy while everyday Iowans get left behind? What steps are being taken to remove Musk from government-affiliated roles and investigate this appointment? Iowans deserve representation that works for them—not for corporate interests. I look forward to your response.
