USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins—who has an estimated net worth of around $15 million—said that the Trump administration has “moved about 4 million off of SNAP,” she claimed that they are moving towards the “American Dream”.
Corporations are the biggest recipient of welfare in this country. Walmart is the largest employer of SNAP recipients in the country. By paying wages so low that many of its own employees qualify for food assistance, the company effectively shifts billions in costs onto taxpayers. At the same time, it can collect federal tax credits of up to $9,600 per employee for hiring people who receive public assistance through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program. And it doesn’t stop there. Roughly one in every four SNAP dollars is spent at Walmart. That means taxpayer money intended to help families buy groceries ends up feeding one of the richest corporations in the world. They’re financially benefitting from SNAP 3 different ways!
In a country that refuses to increase the minimum wage to a living wage we continue to blame hardworking families. People are working (yes WORKING) and still unable to pay for housing and food. This is compounded today by the poor economy where inflation is rising, billionaires get the majority of tax advantages, tariffs make everything cost more, the Iran war is causing the price of gas to explode (the very gas that we need to put in our cars to get to our LOW PAYING jobs).
Poor nutrition hurts the very children we are striving to save through all of our anti abortion measures. Surely you understand that fetuses grow into children in need of nutrition.
You have supported this, you have done nothing to stop it. Stand up for us and for the children, not just the billionaires.
