An Open Letter

December 8

I hope you have seen or heard of the bipartisan letter of the Armed Services Committee to inquire into the attacks in the Caribbean on civilian craft only SUSPECTED of POSSIBLY carrying drugs. That does not sound like due process of law. It DOES sound like our Naval forces being FORCED to follow an ILLEGAL ORDER. You're a Navy veteran. Does this not shock you? Let me refresh your memory: DoD Law of War Manual, Section 18.3.2.1: "The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal." CLEARLY ILLEGAL. As a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, a service dedicated to the protection of life at sea, I am horrified by the actions of one vessel of our Navy in blowing to bits two men who clung helplessly to wreckage of their boat, which was destroyed by that same U.S. Navy vessel and which destruction caused those two men to be cast into the water. That Fool in the White House has our U.S. Navy, in which you served, and in which my father, a graduate of the Naval Academy, served proudly in World War II, committing COLD BLOODED MURDER. NOW TO YOU GET WHAT A DEPRAVED MONSTER IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE? Now do you get his INHUMANITY. Now do you get HIS COMPLETE DISREGARD OF THE LAW? How much is enough for you? What does it take to horrify you? You need to do some wrestling with your conscience, and decide which side of history you want to be on.
