Remove partisan provisions from Hurricane Helene relief bill
To: Gov. Cooper
From: A constituent in Wilson, NC
November 20
The proposed legislation to provide hurricane relief aid is concerning as it contains numerous unrelated provisions that would strip power from incoming Democratic leaders like the governor and attorney general. These partisan efforts undermine the will of voters and distract from the urgent need to assist communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. I urge you to remove all the unrelated provisions from this bill and focus solely on providing comprehensive relief funding and support to those impacted by the hurricane. Tacking on controversial policy changes to must-pass disaster aid is an unacceptable abuse of the legislative process. North Carolinians need their elected officials to put partisan power grabs aside and prioritize getting resources to storm victims efficiently and transparently. Opposing these political maneuvers is not about party affiliation, but about ensuring good governance and respect for democratic principles. Please act to keep this relief bill clean and focused on its stated purpose of hurricane recovery.
