LETTER TO SEN. ERNST: Speak Up and Co-Sign on Amazon’s Price Fixing
Senator Ernst,
I am an Iowa constituent writing to ask for your voice and your action on a matter that directly affects the cost of living for Iowa families.
On April 20, 2026, California Attorney General Rob Bonta released unsealed court documents showing Amazon pressured major brands to force rival retailers — including Walmart and Target — to raise their prices. Internal Amazon emails make the coordination explicit. This is price-fixing, and it is making everyday goods more expensive for consumers across the country, including here in Iowa.
I know you have consistently championed affordability and fiscal responsibility for working Iowans. This is exactly the kind of corporate conduct that undermines those values. When a company controlling nearly half of all U.S. online retail uses its power to keep prices artificially high, every Iowa family pays the price.
I am asking you to take two specific actions:
First, make a public statement acknowledging the seriousness of the April 20 evidence and calling for accountability from Amazon.
Second, co-sign Senator Grassley’s expected letter to the DOJ and FTC calling for a federal investigation into Amazon’s pricing coordination scheme. You joined him on the Robinson-Patman enforcement letter in January — this is the same fight, with far more damning evidence now on the table.
Iowa families are watching. A clear, public stand from you on this issue would demonstrate that you stand with consumers over corporate power.
Thank you for your time and your service to Iowa.
