EMTALA saves lives. Trump is using its repeal to end them.

March 27

The repeal of EMTALA is not a policy shift—it is a moral collapse, and it happened on your watch. For nearly four decades, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act guaranteed one simple, foundational principle: that in the United States of America, you do not let people die on a hospital doorstep because they cannot pay. That line has now been erased. Not debated—erased. And your silence is complicity. You swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and serve the public welfare. Allowing the dismantling of a law that ensured emergency care regardless of income is a direct abandonment of that duty. This is not about partisan politics. This is about whether the federal government still recognizes a basic obligation to preserve human life. What does it say about this body that you will fund endless wars, subsidize corporations, and posture for cameras—but will not act when Americans are told their lives are conditional? That survival itself is now a privilege? Take the government back. Not rhetorically—functionally. Reassert Congressional authority. Restore EMTALA immediately. Investigate how and why this repeal was allowed to proceed without meaningful resistance. And make it unmistakably clear that no administration, no ideology, and no political calculation overrides the fundamental responsibility to protect human life. If you fail to act, then understand this: you are no longer passive observers to harm—you are active participants in it. History will not struggle to assign blame. Act accordingly.
