Reject anti-voter legislation undermining fair elections and redistricting
To: Rep. Ross
From: A constituent in Raleigh, NC
December 5
The hurricane relief provided is inadequate, and the bill undermines voting rights and fair redistricting processes. It imposes strict voter ID requirements for mail-in ballots that could disenfranchise many eligible voters. The redistricting criteria heavily favor the party in power by allowing for aggressive gerrymandering of districts. Furthermore, the bill restricts efforts to help voters cure minor issues with their mail ballots, potentially leading to many legitimate votes being thrown out over technicalities. All of these provisions make it harder for people to have their voices heard in elections. While improving election security is a reasonable goal, these measures go too far and threaten to silence many North Carolinians, particularly in underrepresented communities. I urge you to reject this harmful legislation that rigs the system against fair democratic participation.
