I urge you to support reforms to our healthcare system that eliminate a major source of financial hardship for families.
When life changes force a switch in health insurance plans outside the annual open enrollment period, patients must meet entirely new deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums — even with continuous coverage. This “reset penalty” has cost my family thousands of dollars in a single year.
This policy penalizes responsible Americans who maintain coverage but need to adjust plans due to job changes, marriage, divorce, or other qualifying events. It creates unnecessary financial shocks and disrupts care.
I ask that you back legislation requiring health plans to credit prior deductible and out-of-pocket spending toward a new plan when coverage remains uninterrupted.
This common-sense reform would promote continuity of care and protect working families from duplicative costs.
Thank you for your attention. I welcome your position on deductible continuity reform.
