Trump allowing DOGE to systematically dismantle federal agencies and their subsequent funding cuts have a huge hand in the current Ebola crisis.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sent an "urgent request" to its workforce to recruit personnel to help screen passengers coming from Central Africa for any potential signs of Ebola illness, according to an internal email to staff.
The email was sent by acting CDC Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya. An HHS official confirmed the authenticity of the letter.
This critical need for volunteers is a direct result of DOGE purges at the CDC, which led to a 21% reduction of staff.
This problem has been compounded by Donald Trump withdrawing the US from the WHO, which the CDC is no longer allowed to be in communication with.
Furthermore, Trump's cuts to USAID are responsible for a hampered response to the Ebola crisis. Previously, the US has led the response to Ebola outbreaks.
The Republican controlled Congress is responsible for allowing this, as Congress holds the power of the purse and could have stopped Trump and DOGE.
