I am writing to demand immediate action regarding Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s proven dishonesty before Congress—dishonesty with direct consequences for children's lives. Kennedy testified that his 2019 Samoa visit "had nothing to do with vaccines." Documents obtained by the Guardian and AP prove otherwise. On January 20, 2019, Kennedy wrote to Samoa's prime minister on Children's Health Defense letterhead proposing a "detailed health informatics assessment" of the nation's MMR vaccine. He used "vaccine" or "vaccination" eight times and speculated that deaths of two children after MMR vaccination resulted from "manufacturing issues." Within months of Kennedy's visit, Samoa experienced a devastating measles outbreak. Eighty-three people died—overwhelmingly children under five—with over 1,860 hospitalizations. Measles was nearly eliminated in Samoa; the outbreak coincided with vaccine hesitancy fueled by misinformation Kennedy had promoted. This pattern has repeated domestically. In 2024, measles outbreaks emerged in communities with low vaccination rates, claiming preventable lives. Kennedy's anti-vaccine activities directly contributed to vaccine confidence crises that kill children. Yet Kennedy lied to Congress about his role. He concealed his documented intent to undermine MMR vaccination programs, then moved immediately upon confirmation to weaken vaccine policies nationwide. This is not merely dishonesty—it is dishonesty with a documented body count. Kennedy's false testimony to Congress was followed by concrete harm: children in Samoa died after his visit, and his ongoing activities continue to fuel vaccine hesitancy at home. Knowingly giving false testimony to Congress is a federal crime. I urge you to demand investigation, require Kennedy's sworn explanation, and use all available tools—including impeachment—to hold him accountable. The American people deserve a health secretary whose words can be trusted with their children's lives.
