Demand Investigation Into Falsified Inspector General Reports
To: Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis, Rep. Maloy
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 20
The Trump administration altered a Social Security Administration inspector general report to hide the truth about call wait times. The original draft showed average wait times of 46 minutes to over 2 hours. The published version falsely claimed wait times were under 10 minutes. SSA Commissioner Frank Bisignano then used this fabricated data to justify DOGE layoffs, claiming they improved efficiency when the opposite was true.
This isn't an isolated incident. Trump fired inspectors general at 19 agencies and replaced them with partisan loyalists. These watchdogs exist to provide independent oversight and protect taxpayers from waste and fraud. When their reports are doctored to support predetermined political narratives, the entire system of accountability collapses.
I need you to demand a full investigation into which reports have been altered, who ordered the changes, and what the real data shows. Congress must restore independent inspectors general and pass legislation protecting them from political interference. Without honest reporting from our own government agencies, we cannot make informed decisions about policies that affect our lives. The American people deserve to know the truth about how their government is performing.
