Feed Your District. Do Your Job.
To: Rep. Bentz
From: A constituent in Myrtle Creek, OR
October 31
Tomorrow, more than 167,000 people in Oregon’s 2nd District — your district — will lose the food assistance they depend on because Congress has failed to act. SNAP benefits run out tomorrow, and you’ve done nothing. Nothing.
You are an attorney. You know damn well that two federal courts ruled today that the Trump administration’s move to block these funds is illegal. And yet, instead of demanding that emergency funds be released to feed your constituents, you’ve chosen silence. Silence while children, seniors, and working families in your own district are left to starve.
This isn’t a budget debate. It’s a moral test — and you’re failing it. SNAP and WIC are lifelines that feed millions of Americans, including hundreds of thousands right here at home. By refusing to act, you are actively participating in cruelty and economic violence against the people you swore an oath to represent.
Your inaction isn’t fiscal conservatism — it’s cowardice. It’s inhuman. And it’s illegal by your own professional standards. If you will not stand up to your party’s cruelty, then you have no business calling yourself a representative, let alone an officer of the court.
I demand that you publicly and immediately call for the release of emergency funds to continue SNAP and WIC during the shutdown — today, not tomorrow. Every hour you hesitate, more families lose the ability to eat.
History will remember where you stood: with your starving constituents, or with those who let them go hungry.
