Condemn Senator Lee's insensitive tweets, call for resignation
To: Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
June 17
The recent tweets by Senator Mike Lee mocking the deadly shootings targeting Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota are truly appalling and unbecoming of an elected official. His attempt to make light of a domestic terror attack that has claimed innocent lives is depraved and shows a disturbing lack of empathy. Sharing an image of the suspect moments before carrying out this heinous act, along with a flippant caption, is highly insensitive to the victims and their families. Such conduct from a sitting U.S. Senator is disgraceful and unacceptable. It emboldens extremists and undermines faith in our democratic institutions. Senator Lee must be held accountable for his actions that inflame tensions and promote division during a time of national tragedy. His resignation would be an appropriate step to restore some dignity to the office he holds. Elected leaders have a responsibility to bring people together, not mock acts of violence for perceived political gain. I urge you to condemn Senator Lee's tweets in the strongest possible terms and call for his resignation. His depraved behavior has no place in civil society, let alone the United States Senate. It is imperative that our leaders model respect, compassion and a commitment to democratic values, especially in the wake of such tragic events. Senator Lee has clearly failed in this regard and lost the public's trust. He must resign immediately.
