AI needs regulation. As a tech worker, I’m alarmed at the pace at which my job has changed and at which these AI companies, Anthropic and OpenAI, have grown. I’m concerned that executives and CEOs are just adopting this technology at the peril of employee wellbeing and that we as employees are basically powerless against this. We need to pause AI development and consider practical ways that this widespread societal adoption plays out. Will we need to re-skill mass numbers of the workforce? Will we all be safe from AI military weapons? Already, we are seeing heat seeking drones powered by AI attacking civilians in Gaza, which is a whole different tragic topic that needs stopping. The world is quickly angling towards tragedy if we don’t slow down the adoption and production of AI. Please stop these companies from recklessly pursuing the development of AI. Nobody needs this technology.
