The Honorable Gov. Armstrong, Sen. Patten, Rep. Maki, and Rep. Olson Subject: Opposition to the Creation of the White House Office of Faith and Related Task Force Dear Representatives, I am writing to express my strong opposition to the creation of the White House Office of Faith and any task force aimed at addressing so-called "anti-Christian forces." While religious freedom is a cornerstone of our nation, establishing a government office to oversee faith-related matters directly conflicts with the First Amendment’s guarantees of religious liberty and the separation of church and state. The United States was founded on the principle of religious liberty, explicitly protected in the First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." By endorsing a specific religious belief, this office threatens this fundamental protection and sets a dangerous precedent that undermines the religious pluralism that defines our nation. Our Founding Fathers intended to keep the government free from religious entanglement. The Treaty of Tripoli, unanimously ratified by the Senate in 1797 and signed by President John Adams, explicitly states in Article 11, "The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." As an official act of the U.S. government, this treaty reaffirms that our nation was never intended to be bound to any specific religious doctrine. From official treaties and constitutional principles to personal writings, the Founding Fathers consistently rejected the idea that the United States was established as a Christian nation. Instead, they built a government rooted in religious neutrality, ensuring freedom for people of all faiths (or no faith) without state endorsement of any religion. This Executive Order is not only unconstitutional but also divisive. I urge you to oppose this declaration and reaffirm our nation’s commitment to religious liberty for all Americans, regardless of their faith or beliefs. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, A Concerned North Dakota Citizen
