An Open Letter
To: Sen. Moreno
From: A constituent in Columbus, OH
January 6
I am writing to express serious concern about your continued support for Donald Trump in light of mounting evidence and conduct that directly contradicts the oath you took to uphold the U.S. Constitution.
Recent events alone should alarm any public servant committed to democratic principles: the botched and seemingly obstructed Epstein files release; repeated rhetoric about invading or “taking” sovereign territories such as Greenland and Cuba; the unauthorized and illegal operation in Venezuela; and, most critically, Jack Smith’s testimony stating there is ample evidence that President Trump attempted to overturn a lawful U.S. election.
Additionally, Mr. Smith stated that President Trump improperly retained classified documents and failed to fully cooperate with the government’s lawful efforts to recover them—conduct that poses serious national security risks and places no individual above the law.
These are not partisan talking points. They are issues of constitutional order, national security, and the rule of law.
At this point, it is fair to ask whether political loyalty—or what is often dismissed as “TDS”—is preventing you from fulfilling your actual job: defending the Constitution against all threats, foreign and domestic. That duty does not disappear when the threat comes from your own party or the sitting president.
If you are unwilling or unable to uphold the Constitution as you swore to do, then the honorable course of action is to resign.
The American people deserve representatives who place the Constitution above any individual.
