Pass the Senate Bill to Reopen DHS and Pay TSA Workers
To: Rep. Maloy
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
March 29
Pass the Senate bill to reopen the Department of Homeland Security immediately. I am appalled that you chose to put politics over the hard-working people of the TSA. Over 50,000 TSA agents have worked without pay for more than a month. This is unacceptable.
I travel through airports regularly and have seen the consequences firsthand. Hours-long queues stretch through terminals. In Houston, only one-third to 50% of TSA checkpoints are operating. Hundreds of agents have resigned because they cannot afford to work without paychecks. These are hardworking Americans who show up every day to keep us safe, and you have abandoned them.
The Senate passed a bipartisan compromise that would fund TSA, the Coast Guard, and FEMA. Your decision to reject it and send Congress home for two weeks is a betrayal of federal workers and every American who depends on functional airports. Whatever your position on immigration enforcement, TSA agents should not be held hostage to it. ICE has too much money as it is. They need to be completely defunded.
Stop the political theater. Reopen DHS and get these workers paid.
