ICE Violence and Congressional Accountability

To: Sen. Kim, Rep. Pou, Sen. Booker

From: A verified voter in Garfield, NJ

January 25

I am urging you to demand immediate accountability for ICE’s use of deadly force against civilians. Recent ICE actions, including fatal shootings of both immigrants and U.S. citizens, represent a dangerous escalation of unchecked federal power. These are not isolated incidents but the predictable result of an agency operating without meaningful oversight or consequences. Congress has a responsibility to act. At minimum, this requires full, independent investigations into ICE’s use of deadly force and transparency around the rules of engagement governing federal agents deployed in civilian communities. Continued silence or delay signals approval of tactics that violate civil liberties and endanger lives. I am asking you to refuse to support any Department of Homeland Security funding that maintains or expands ICE operations without strict accountability, public reporting, and enforceable limits on the use of force. Funding an agency that repeatedly kills civilians without consequence is incompatible with democratic governance. The federal government cannot claim to value human life while shielding ICE agents from scrutiny and accountability. Congressional oversight is not optional here—it is the only check preventing further loss of life. This is a defining moment. Constituents are watching to see whether Congress will confront ICE’s abuses or continue enabling them through inaction.
