I am writing as a deeply alarmed constituent to demand immediate and public action in response to Donald Trump’s recent statements calling for the arrest and possible execution of Democratic lawmakers over their speech and encouraging members of the military and intelligence community to refuse lawful orders.
These are not abstract threats or rhetorical excesses. They are explicit calls for political violence and the dismantling of constitutional governance. When a former—and potentially future—president declares that speech he dislikes is “seditious behavior, punishable by death,” it is an attack on the First Amendment, civilian control of the military, and the rule of law itself.
As a member of congress sworn to uphold the Constitution, your voice carries particular weight. Silence or tepid responses in moments like this are not neutrality, they are acquiescence. History has shown us that democracies erode not only through force, but through hesitation in the face of clear danger.
I am urging you to:
• Publicly and unequivocally condemn these statements as unconstitutional and dangerous.
• Support formal congressional inquiries and accountability measures addressing incitement to violence and abuse of power.
• Take all available legislative and oversight actions to ensure no individual, regardless of status, is above the law.
This is a defining moment. Americans need to know that their elected leaders will defend democracy not only when it is convenient, but also when it is under direct threat.
