The proposed cuts to indirect cost rates for National Institutes of Health (NIH) research grants would severely undermine vital scientific progress in the United States. These costs cover essential facilities, administration, and compliance expenses that enable groundbreaking research to take place. Without proper funding for indirect costs, universities and institutions would be forced to lay off personnel, shutter laboratories, and halt numerous studies, stifling innovation across various medical fields. This destructive policy threatens to cripple American leadership in biomedical research and postpone lifesaving treatments and cures. Idaho congressmen need to support the repeal of the NIH rate cut. The NIH must reconsider these reckless cuts that will hinder scientific advancement and ultimately harm public health for generations to come. Robust funding for indirect costs is critical to sustaining the productivity of the world-class research ecosystem cultivated by the NIH.
