I oppose Senate Joint Resolution 2, as it attempts to silence voters
To: Sen. Plumb, Rep. Dailey-Provost
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
February 22
Raising the requirements for citizens to propose statewide initiatives through Utah's constitutional amendment process is concerning. As engaged residents, we value having a voice in shaping policies that impact our communities. Overly burdensome rules risk disenfranchising many Utahns from this fundamental democratic process. While reasonable guidelines are understandable, erecting additional barriers feels unwarranted and undemocratic. I urge you to carefully reconsider measures that would make it more difficult for the people to directly participate in their government through the initiative process. An engaged citizenry is a cornerstone of a healthy republic.
