Safeguard government payment systems from undue interference
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Portland, OR
February 2, 2025
DOGE, a private organization run by Elon Musk, is not a legitimate federal department. Treasury's Bureau of the Fiscal Service plays a critical role in distributing trillions of dollars in annual payments, including Social Security, tax refunds, and funds for federal workers and contractors. Allowing potential interference or manipulation of this system by political actors or private entities could disrupt the flow of legally mandated payments and shake confidence in U.S. financial operations worldwide. Any attempts to grant improper access or authority over these payment systems to groups like DOGE pose an unacceptable risk. To maintain the integrity and reliability of the government's payment processing, all officials involved must uphold long-standing protocols and processes. Career civil servants with expertise in this area should have full autonomy to carry out their duties without pressure or obstruction from outside parties. Protecting citizens' personal information and ensuring the timely delivery of essential funds should be the top priority. Any efforts that could undermine these vital functions must be swiftly rejected to safeguard economic stability and public trust.
