After reading about, listening to and watching President Trump for almost 4 months now on various media outlets (including Fox News), it’s clear to me that Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution needs to be invoked.
As you know, it provides for an involuntary transfer of power, which permits the vice president and either the cabinet or a body approved “by law” formed by Congress, to jointly agree that “the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.
Senator Birch Bayh, who played a critical role in championing the 25th Amendment, explained in February 1965 that Section 4 was designed to deal with “an impairment of the president’s faculties, meaning that he is unable either to make or communicate his decisions as to his own competency to execute the powers and duties of his office.”
You need to be championing this idea and consult with your colleagues on the proper steps to begin the process.
If impeachment is not an option, the 25th Amendment is. It’s obvious this president cannot reasonably communicate, understand or comprehend basic and important concepts required for his office.
Ideally, since impeachment articles have been submitted in the House, that would be the most appropriate way to remove this cancer from our nation, but please take the 25th Amendment seriously. It is a vehicle to be used for the very scenario we are in now.
Our forefathers thought of many unique situations to help keep our country safe, and this amendment to the original Constitution really solidifies and outlines the process. Please consider this as an action to help save our democracy.
