Vote NO on HR9594 to protect free speech

To: Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis, Rep. Foushee

From: A constituent in Chapel Hill, NC

November 18

This legislation poses a grave threat to free speech and dissent by enabling the government to arbitrarily strip organizations of their tax-exempt status based on unsubstantiated allegations of "terrorist supporting" activities. The vague terminology and lack of due process protections mean any group critical of the administration could potentially be targeted and shut down without justification. Nonprofits, media outlets, universities, and civil society groups play a vital role in a healthy democracy by holding the powerful accountable. Allowing their voices to be silenced through such a broadly-defined designation sets a dangerous precedent for abusing state power to crush political opposition. I urge you to protect the fundamental rights of free expression and association by voting against H.R. 9495. Unchecked government overreach of this magnitude jeopardizes the democratic principles our nation was founded upon.
