The Recissions Package is Bad News
To: Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine
From: A constituent in Charlottesville, VA
July 7
Hi there,
I’m writing to ask that you please vote NO on the rescissions package currently before you.
There’s so much at stake. This package threatens to eliminate funding for Public Broadcasting—a service that more than 70% of rural Americans rely on as a trusted source of local news, emergency alerts, and educational programming. Public Broadcasting has been a cornerstone of American life for decades. It’s where Sesame Street got its start—an iconic program shaped by child development experts at Harvard that has helped millions of children learn to read, count, and understand the world with empathy.
Cutting this funding would hurt families, educators, and especially children in communities with the fewest resources.
And abroad, the proposed foreign aid cuts are equally devastating. U.S. foreign assistance accounts for less than 1% of the federal budget but helps prevent famine, disease, and conflict around the world. These cuts would not only be cruel—they would make us less safe and less respected globally.
This is a moment to choose kindness, wisdom, and forward-thinking leadership. I truly believe you have the power to help protect what makes this country strong, compassionate, and informed. Please vote no.
Thank you for your time and service.
