Vote Against All Three NC Constitutional Amendments

To: Sen. Berger, Rep. Branson, Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Pleasant Garden, NC

October 14

Vote no on SB 1080, HB 1089, and SB 921, the three constitutional amendments on the November 3 ballot. All three lock future generations into policies that strip flexibility from state and local governments, and the biggest winners are corporations and the wealthy, not working families. The income tax cap in SB 1080 would permanently bar the state from taxing high earners at a higher rate, even in a crisis. One analysis found that North Carolinians earning over $770,000 would save $25,000 under these cuts, while those earning under $25,000 save just $34. The property tax amendment in HB 1089 would save the average homeowner about $84 a year while handing Duke Energy $96,000 per penny cut from the tax rate. Local governments would lose the flexibility to fund schools, fire departments, and emergency services. These amendments don't belong in the Constitution. Amending the Constitution should require broad public consensus, not a gerrymandered supermajority. Once these pass, undoing them will be nearly impossible. Vote no on all three.
