As a U.S. citizen living abroad and a registered voter in Louisiana/St. Tammany, I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the "SAVE America Act."
While proponents claim this bill secures elections, it actually creates insurmountable barriers for millions of eligible voters—particularly those serving in the military or living overseas.
Why This Bill is Dangerous:
Disenfranchises Overseas Citizens: The requirement to provide proof of citizenship and residency in personwould effectively bar nearly every American living abroad from participating in our democracy.
Creates Red Tape for Millions: Over 21 million U.S. citizens lack immediate access to proof of citizenship, and 140 million do not have a passport.
Targets Women and Vulnerable Groups: 69 million women with name changes (due to marriage or divorce) would face significant hurdles because their birth certificates do not match their legal names.
Solves a Non-Existent Problem: There is no evidence of widespread non-citizen voting. This bill is a solution in search of a problem that only serves to suppress the legal vote.
Our democracy is strongest when all eligible citizens can participate. This bill does the opposite—it targets the very people, including our service members, who rely on a fair and accessible absentee process.
I ask that you stand up for my right to vote and oppose the SAVE America Act.
