You Weren’t Elected to Be Trump’s Puppets

To: Sen. Moody, Sen. Scott, Rep. Gimenez

From: A constituent in Miami, FL

July 6

I am writing to you as a deeply disappointed Floridian and American citizen. Your recent actions and ongoing alignment with the Trump political machine—particularly your support of policies like the so-called “big beautiful bill” and the creation of what is effectively an alligator Alcatraz—are nothing short of embarrassing. In fact, they are dangerous, authoritarian, and un-American. These decisions appear less about governance and more about political theater meant to appease Donald Trump, a man who has consistently shown contempt for democratic institutions and the wellbeing of the American people. Your willingness to go along with this agenda, rather than standing up for principle and common sense, is disgraceful. Floridians deserve representatives who act in our interest, not in blind loyalty to a figure who thrives on chaos and division. We need leadership that protects our freedoms, addresses real issues like the cost of living, climate resilience, education, and healthcare—not public stunts and propaganda. The alligator prison concept is not a joke—it’s a disturbing display of authoritarian fantasy, and the country is watching. Supporting Trump’s agenda at all costs is not leadership. It’s cowardice. You were elected to serve us, not him. And every time you choose to prioritize his whims over Florida’s real needs, you fail your constituents. I urge you to reconsider the direction you’re heading. Stop using your offices to chase clout and curry favor with a man who cares only for his own power. Start serving the people who put you in office—before more damage is done. We’re watching. And we vote.
