Stop trying to privatize Utah

To: Sen. Curtis, Sen. Lee, Rep. Maloy

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

July 21

Utah's leadership continues its misguided efforts to undermine public lands protections, ignoring widespread public opposition. The failed attempts to force sale of federal lands through legislation faced backlash from diverse groups like hunters, anglers, environmentalists and even fellow Republicans. Despite these clear signals, the state persists in pursuing legal strategies aimed at state control over public lands currently managed by federal agencies. However, history shows states have often prioritized commercial exploitation over environmental stewardship and public access on lands under their jurisdiction. Public lands preserve vital natural spaces for recreation, biodiversity and ecological health while remaining open for responsible use by all citizens. Utahns value and depend on these shared resources near urban areas that would be prime targets for development under state control. The push to privatize federal lands disregards the public good in favor of narrow corporate interests. Protecting Utah's renowned landscapes and outdoor traditions requires maintaining federal oversight and stakeholder involvement in land management decisions. Urge state leaders to respect the will of the people and end this wasteful, unpopular crusade against America's public lands heritage.
