I ask you to join the fight against Trump's voter suppression and bring our state into the coalition defending mail-in voting. His executive order — struck down last week by a federal judge — would have handed DHS and USPS the power to build voter eligibility lists and deny ballots to anyone left off them. Judge Indira Talwani got it right: states, not the federal executive branch, hold constitutional authority over voter eligibility.
Mail-in ballots are safe and secure. Utah proves it every year, running its entire elections by mail without scandal. Twenty-three states and D.C. already challenged this order. Our state should be standing with them. The administration will keep pushing through new orders and agency rules — and we need every state on record opposing it before the next attempt lands.
