Don't disenfranchise married women!

To: Rep. Letlow, Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy

The proposed SAVE Act would disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters by imposing overly strict voter ID requirements. This draconian legislation mandates that all voters show documentary proof of citizenship, which could disqualify up to 7% of American citizens who lack ready access to citizenship documents. Furthermore, it would place an undue burden on married women by requiring them to show documents reflecting their current legal name. Given that roughly 90% of women change their name after marriage, this provision would unduly target and disenfranchise millions of married female voters. Protecting the integrity of elections is vital, but not at the expense of disenfranchising lawful citizens exercising their constitutional right to vote. I urge you to reject this discriminatory and undemocratic bill that would undermine a core tenet of American democracy.
