An Open Letter
To: Sen. Lee, Rep. Owens, Sen. Curtis
From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT
October 26
I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent from Murray, UT to express my profound alarm regarding the demolition of the historic White House East Wing and the method being used to fund the new private ballroom. My central concern is the ethical conflict and lack of transparency surrounding the corporate donors, including the $22 million payment from Google through a legal settlement, which is being directed to the President's personal project. This arrangement, combined with the fact that these companies have significant business and regulatory interests before the Administration, creates the undeniable appearance of a "pay-to-play" system. This conduct undermines the public trust that government officials are working for the American people, not for private corporate interests. Furthermore, I am deeply troubled by reports that the demolition of a National Historic Landmark, such as the East Wing, proceeded without the full, legally required public review and approval from oversight bodies like the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC). My specific request for action is threefold: 1) Demand Full Transparency: I urge you to use your position to compel the immediate public disclosure of the exact donation amounts from every corporate and individual contributor, along with a statement on any pending or recently awarded federal contracts they hold. 2) Call for Congressional Oversight: I request that you advocate for or participate in immediate committee hearings to investigate this unprecedented funding mechanism and determine if it violates federal ethics rules, the Antideficiency Act, or the spirit of anti-bribery laws. 3) Ensure Legal Compliance: I urge you to support all legislative and legal efforts to halt construction until the project is subjected to a full, rigorous review by the appropriate historic preservation and planning commissions. As your constituent, I look to you to ensure that the standards of conduct in the highest office reflect the integrity and ethical transparency the American people deserve. I would appreciate your response detailing what specific actions your office will take regarding this matter. Thank you for your service and consideration of these critical concerns.
