NASA is a central piece of the American identity. It represents our courage to explore, our technological edge, and the inspiration that builds the future.
I am deeply concerned by the Office of Management & Budget proposing to slash the NASA budget by 24% and eviscerate Science by nearly half. If enacted, these cuts would force the early termination of 19 productive space missions, waste more than $12 billion of taxpayers' investment, reduce the workforce to pre-Apollo levels, turn our back on our allies and commercial partners, and surrender the future of space exploration to other nations.
Both the House and Senate have introduced legislation that rejects these cuts and keeps NASA spending flat with currently enacted levels. I commend this commitment to maintaining stable science funding and urge you to adopt this bipartisan approach to protect NASA and the National Science Foundation.
Stable funding for NASA and NSF will strengthen the space economy, enable scientific and technological discoveries, and safeguard American leadership in space.
