Dear, Gov. Kotek, Sen. Frederick and Rep. Sanchez.
I am reaching out in SUPPORT of the Universal Health Plan Governance Board (UHPGB) - Universal Health Plan.
As someone who was laid off and struggled to find work for 2+ years I was fortunate to benefit from Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and believe that it is well past time to decouple health care from employment.
Oregon can lead the way on this front!
The state-sponsored Universal Health Plan Governance Board (UHPGB) has built the Universal Health Plan that:
*Covers every Oregon resident regardless of age, housing, immigration status or employment.
*Includes a comprehensive benefits package that eliminates premiums, out-of-pocket costs, copays and deductibles.
*Replaces our broken, profit-driven insurance model with a more fair, just and kind medical system that puts patients over profits.
This plan will be submitted to the Governor in September but could disappear if it is not written into a bill that is then introduced to the 2027 Legislative Session.
As an Oregonian, I urgently request that a bill is written using the UHPGB recommendations, gets a hearing, and is made a priority in the 2027 long session.
I and other Oregonians are calling on every member of the Oregon Legislature to:
1.) Turn “The Universal Health Plan” into “The Universal Health Bill”!.
*Sign on to sponsor the Universal Health Plan when it is turned into a bill
*Get the bill to floor votes in the 2027 session
2.) Ensure the financial mechanism of the bill is progressive and easy to understand
Thank you for seeing the future of health care, supporting businesses, and the wellbeing of Oregonians.
