STOP The ARCH!!! In case you have forgotten, Arlington National Cemetery opened because of the Civil War dead. It was decided to bury Union soldiers in General Lee’s from yard to keep him from being able to live there again. Later the Lincoln Memorial was built so that there would be a clear sight line between it and Arlington National Cemetery. After the Civil War, soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen from every conflict were buried there and continue on a daily basis to be buried there. That cemetery now belongs to all Americans, especially the families of the fallen from WWII, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and now even Iran. No military family wants 20 hour a day construction disrupting funerals and quiet time in the cemetery. And they do not want the families of newly fallen to be watched by tourists as they lay their loved ones to rest. The construction of the Arch on Memorial Circle is an affront to our fallen comrades and their families, and yo the history of that avenue between Lincoln and Arlington. Just say NO! Stand up for the Arlington families and tell the current administration that a vanity project is unsuitable and unbecoming.
