Banning open-source and open-weight AI models from China is ridiculous. You will just make it easier for China to beat us in AI, just as you have by banning American AI HW exports to China. It just makes them dig deeper and end up more competitive. If China can provide a solution that includes a great open-source model, but we can’t, then that means less American AI in the world, and that will hurt the American economy. Whatever happened to the free market in the Republican party? It’s hard to keep track of all the damage that Republicans are doing to the USA. PIssing off all of our trading partners with tariffs and the Iran War is another very disturbing thing. Republicans are incompetent at governing.
