Reject any attempt to reduce or remove the DoE. The DoE is an integral part of education that guides the states in many ways but it does not control items such as curriculum.
I am a teacher. I teach in our lovely state of Florida. The FL DoE and my district guide my curriculum, the pacing guides, testing, and so on. They are in charge of the testing windows, the curriculum we use, whether it is virtual or physical books, all of that.
The DoE has nothing to do with any of that. In fact, it ensures states and school districts follow the laws and procedures regarding funding. It is in charge of ensuring all students receive education and assists states in funding for students as well as the districts it serves. Removing the DoE will only be problematic.
The DoE is how students with disabilities receive extra supports without burdening the states. It is how students can have aids like an iPad without creating an extreme burden on the district and district funding. It also ensures the funds don't go to the school itself, especially in lower income areas that may not have as many students in the first place.
President Trump would see all of the burden fall to the states. He would see the states take on even more financial burden, something that can be a worry when we are dealing with things such as hurricanes.
Please help reject any orders to reduce or remove the Department of Education. This is an important part of our country and helps support the states.
