No DHS Funding Without Accountability for ICE and Border Patrol
To: Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy
From: A verified voter in Shreveport, LA
January 24
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the funding allocated to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the urgent need for accountability within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol.
As a concerned citizen, I believe that our federal agencies must operate within the bounds of the law and uphold the values of justice and human rights. Unfortunately, both ICE and Border Patrol have been involved in numerous incidents of misconduct and abuse, raising serious questions about their practices and the impact on vulnerable communities. At least two American citizens have been murdered by ICE in Minnesota in the past few weeks.
Before any further funding is granted to DHS, it is imperative that we implement strict oversight and accountability measures for ICE and Border Patrol. This includes:
Establish independent bodies to investigate allegations of misconduct and ensure accountability for any violations of civil rights.
Require regular reporting on the actions and policies of ICE and Border Patrol, making this information accessible to the public and relevant oversight committees.
Advocate for policies that prioritize humane treatment of migrants and promote community safety rather than fear.
Funding DHS without these critical reforms sends a message that we condone the current practices of these agencies. As your constituent, I urge you to take a stand for justice and human rights. Please advocate for accountability measures before any additional funding is approved.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. What I am seeing in Minnesota is not the America I know.
