Investigate ICE's Deadly Use of Force and Hold Agents Accountable

To: Sen. Cortez Masto, Sen. Rosen, Rep. Horsford

From: A constituent in North Las Vegas, NV

July 14

File complaints with ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility and demand a full investigation into the agency's deadly use of force. ICE weapons spending has spiked 600%, and agents have already killed Silverio Villegas Gonzalez and Renee Nicole Good — both shot shortly after school drop-off. This isn't a pattern of isolated incidents. It's a systemic failure of command and accountability. ICE's own Firearms and Use of Force Directive prohibits deadly force solely to prevent a fleeing suspect from escaping. Its Detention Standard 2.8 states that force shall never be used to punish a detainee. Agents are violating both, and DHS leadership is doing nothing to stop it. Complaints should be copied to the DHS Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman to ensure maximum oversight pressure. The families of Villegas Gonzalez and Good deserve answers — and so does every community where ICE operates with apparent impunity.
