An Open Letter
To: Rep. Lee
From: A constituent in Las Vegas, NV
November 4
Democrats have a mandate to repair the corruption and lawlessness of the Trump administration.
Representative Jeffries said on MS NOW that Americans “don’t want us to get even” [1] and that Democrats will focus on affordability rather than retribution. While he followed up to say that wrongdoers would be held accountable, I want to be very clear about where I stand as a constituent.
I want the powerful held to account. I want corruption prosecuted and punished. I want ICE abolished and its disgusting lawlessness and concentration camps shut down. I want every government agent who obeyed an illegal order held responsible, and I want the leaders who issued those orders to face the appropriate consequences. I want justice.
If Representative Jeffries won’t push hard for justice, do not re-elect him as Speaker. We need leadership that will move us into a new era of good governance, equal protection under the law, and government of, by, and for the people.
Yes, I do want you to focus on affordability. Repeal the lawless tariffs and end the military action in Iran. Protect workers’ rights, raise the minimum wage, tax the wealthy fairly, and regulate businesses. Support capitalism by breaking up illegally large monopolies. Enact Medicare for All. Enforce funding of our statutory agencies and their missions.
I do not want a return to weird conciliation with the Republican politics we just trounced out of power. I want us to move forward into a new era of good governance.
Thank you.
