Clarity Act

To: Rep. Hoyer, Sen. Van Hollen, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A constituent in Chesapeake Beach, MD

February 22

Please put your energy into not allowing the Clarity Act to pass. Here are three alarming facts about crypto: Eleven pension funds that invested in crypto have lost about 60 percent of their value. Trump plans to create his own crypto bank. Criminals will launder drug money through crypto and our valuable transparency laws will be upended. And there’s more. Please don’t let this get out of committee. Groups around the country have urged the Senate to make sure that bill includes binding, enforceable provisions to prevent crypto money laundering, crypto corruption, and crypto risks to the economy and financial system. But what is under consideration is just window dressing that fails to meaningfully address these issues and we will be surrendering our economy to crypto oligarchs without the needed oversight. I’m asking Senator Alsobrooks to vote no on the Clarity Act (or its new name) when it comes up in the Banking Committee. I’m asking the rest of you to press her and all of your colleagues on the committee to vote against it. Democrats shouldn’t give away the future of the American economy to crypto oligarchs who are dismantling our democracy. This is exactly what we elected you NOT to do. I will be furious if this passes with Democratic help. Vote no. Thank you!
