Reject SB593, unconstitutional overreach into personal lives and freedoms

To: Sen. Boren

From: A constituent in Norman, OK

February 4, 2025

SB593's proposal to criminalize all pornography represents a dangerous infringement on freedom of expression and privacy rights. While protecting children from exploitation is critical, this bill goes too far by seeking to ban consensual pornography between adults, even in written formats like erotic literature. Many romance novelists and avid readers could potentially face criminal penalties for creating or possessing materials meant for private enjoyment between consenting adults. This oversteps the proper bounds of government authority and tramples on constitutionally protected rights to free speech and privacy in the home. Rather than this draconian approach, a more measured policy addressing only illegal and non-consensual content would better balance public interests without unduly restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
