Uphold the Veto on SB1003 - Reject Discrimination and Respect Human Rights

To: Sen. Sundareshan, Rep. Gutierrez, Rep. Mathis

From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ

August 2

This proposed legislation prohibiting individuals from using bathrooms and changing facilities that align with their gender identity is highly problematic. Such discriminatory policies marginalize and stigmatize transgender and non-binary individuals, infringing on their basic human rights and dignity. Restricting access to public accommodations based solely on one's assigned sex at birth disregards the complex realities of gender identity and expression. Furthermore, defining "sex" narrowly by genitalia and genetics is an outdated and unscientific view that fails to account for the vast diversity of human experiences. Enabling lawsuits against entities that respect transgender individuals' identities promotes an adversarial legal environment rife with potential for harassment and abuse. This bill perpetuates transphobic discrimination and harms some of society's most vulnerable members. I urge you to reject this regressive legislation and instead pursue policies that foster inclusion, respect human rights, and follow contemporary scientific consensus on gender.
