Republicans in Ohio are engaging in a blatant power grab by exploiting a loophole in state law to redraw congressional districts and target Democratic incumbents ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. After failing to pass bipartisan maps as required, the Republican-controlled state legislature now plans to unilaterally approve a highly partisan gerrymander that could eliminate up to three Democratic seats. This would give Republicans a lopsided 12-3 or even 13-2 advantage in Ohio's congressional delegation despite the state being essentially split along partisan lines. This is an egregious assault on fair representation and the democratic process. Gerrymandering of this magnitude rigs the system, silences the voices of millions of Ohioans, and denies them equal representation in Congress. It is a desperate and undemocratic attempt by Republicans to entrench their narrow majority at all costs, even if it means obliterating the concept of one person, one vote. Ohio voters deserve better than these cynical machinations that put partisan interests over democratic principles. This proposed congressional map must be rejected as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander that violates Ohioans' voting rights.
