Please oppose H.R. 9495: “Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act”. This bill is disguised as a simple law to ensure swift action against companies and non profits that are involved with supporting terrorist organizations. On the surface this seems like a logical and easy bill. However, it provisions no restrictions on necessary evidence being presented, and as a consequence any non profits like the ALCU or outspoken critics of the government could be prosecuted under the new law without trial or supporting evidence. It will not be used to stop terror, but it will be used to silence and attack any company that draws the ire of the federal government or executive branch. Please, vote against this legislation.
