Republicans Have Failed to Check the Flagrant Abuses of ICE Agents

To: Rep. Wilson, Sen. Scott, Sen. Graham Nordone

October 31

ICE is out of control. Here are a few of the headlines from just this week. Yesterday, an ICE agents broke the wrist of a non verbal student who was on his way to school. They left him on the side of the road, half a mile from school with no medical assistance. The student was a US citizen. Yesterday an ICE agent was recorded pointing a handgun inches from the face of a bystander, who was walking dogs, during an arrest in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. He was later pepper sprayed during the incident. Ywo days ago, the ACLU of Oregon released video and filed an administrative complaint with the Department of Homeland Security after ICE agents allegedly tailed, boxed in, and slashed the tire of two local residents who were filming ICE activity. In the news this week, a grand jury indicted ICE agent Mario Alberto Morales on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for intentionally running over 48-year-old Mexican construction worker Miguel Parra Hernandez. Where is the red line for Republicans? At no point in the current administration have Republicans, who hold the majority in both chambers of Congress, used their authority the check DHS and ICE. In fact, the Republican dominated Congress has flooded DHS and ICE with hundreds of billions of dollars above and beyond their typical budget. If you want to know why Republicans are looking so weak in the mid-term races, look no further. We have watched. We have waited. We have judged your party unfit to serve.
