The proposed "Save MO Babies Act" aiming to create a registry of pregnant women in Missouri is a concerning overreach that undermines personal freedoms and the will of the voters. Just months ago, Missourians decisively voted to enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution through Amendment 3. Establishing a list of "at-risk" pregnant women to discourage abortions directly contradicts this democratic mandate. Furthermore, such a pregnancy registry raises significant privacy concerns. Forcing women to be tracked and monitored by the government due to their reproductive status is an unacceptable violation of bodily autonomy and civil liberties. This draconian measure could enable harassment or discrimination against those included on the list. Rather than pursuing an unconstitutional and invasive policy that disregards citizens' voices, the state should focus its efforts on substantive improvements to maternal healthcare, family support services, and protecting the reproductive rights affirmed by Missouri voters. Safeguarding individual freedoms and upholding the will of the people must be the paramount priorities. I urge you to reject this misguided legislation that undermines both.
