Congress is spending our tax dollars to build a 24/7 surveillance network that lets police and federal agents keep tabs on American citizens (and ex-girlfriends.) What does this look like? - * 120,000 CAMERAS - Independent volunteers have mapped over 95,000 Flock license plate cameras, and the company itself claims more than 120,000 across 49 states, feeding a searchable location database used by over 5,000 law enforcement agencies. * NOT TRAFFIC CAMERAS - Every time you drive past one, your plate, your car’s make, color, bumper stickers, and even body damage are logged with a time and a location, whether or not you are suspected of anything. No warrant. No opt-out. * ICE HUNTS WITH IT - A camera your city bought to recover stolen cars is now feeding federal immigration enforcement, and Flock data has also been used to track protesters and follow a woman traveling for reproductive health care. * COPS STALK THEIR EXES - A Washington Post investigation found at least 50 officers charged with or accused of misusing plate readers, including 26 who tracked wives, girlfriends, and exes. A system with that little oversight will always be abused by the worst person holding the login. - CONGRESS CAN KILL FUNDING - Members in both parties have moved to strip federal funding from departments that run mass license plate surveillance. We expect our Representatives to defund Flock, or lose our vote.
