Raise the federal minimum wage to $17 an hour
To: Rep. Beyer
From: A constituent in Arlington, VA
November 18
As your constituent, I urge you to support raising the federal minimum wage to $17 per hour. Twenty years ago, I worked for Marriott hotels, experiencing firsthand how difficult it was to survive on low wages. Today's service workers face even greater challenges – while the federal minimum wage has stagnated at $7.25 since 2009, the cost of living has increased dramatically.
When I worked in hotels, my colleagues and I struggled despite working full-time. The situation is now worse for current workers who face much higher housing, food, and healthcare costs on wages that haven't kept pace with inflation.
Please:
Support legislation raising the minimum wage to $17/hour
Make this a priority issue in the House
I look forward to hearing your position on this crucial issue.
