Reject SAVE Act barriers to voting rights
To: Rep. Khanna
From: A constituent in Santa Clara, CA
February 12
The SAVE Act seeks to impose strict citizenship documentation requirements for voter registration that could disproportionately disenfranchise women of color and other marginalized groups who may lack ready access to proof of citizenship documents. Studies show millions of Americans, especially those from underrepresented communities, do not have immediate access to documents like birth certificates or passports required under this bill. These burdensome restrictions undermine free and fair elections vital to democracy by creating unnecessary voting barriers, particularly for women of color. I urge rejecting this legislation which erects hurdles hindering the fundamental right to vote for specific populations rather than expanding access to the ballot for all eligible citizens.
